The area of Deogyusan National Park stretches out from the southern ridges of Sobaeksan Mountain, covering regions within four different counties in Gyeongsangnam-do and Jeollabuk-do. The park is nestled in Deogyusan Mountain, Korea's 4th tallest mountain with the summit reaching an elevation of 1,614 meters. The mountain is blessed with a 36-kilometre valley dotted with several scenic points, ponds, and waterfalls.
The mountain contains prestigious cultural heritages, such as Jeoksangsanseong Fortress (Historic Site No. 146) and the Hanging Painting of Anguksa Temple (Treasure No. 1267) to name a few. It is also home to diverse wildlife animals and plants. The mountain's beauty can be enjoyed all year round, with royal azaleas in spring, a colony of daylilies in summer, colourful autumn foliage in fall, and a white snowy mountain vista in winter.
If you go up by gondola, you can enjoy the beautiful scenic view of the exhilarating ridgeline and Mt. Deogyusan. You can enjoy the hike, even if you come without wearing or preparing hiking gear.
Deogyusan (1,614m) has a majestic ridge of about 1,300m running southwest of the peak called Hyangjeokbong. Among them, the east peak of Deogyusan called, Jibong and Chilbong in the north are located. It is said that the name Deogyusan was given because it was a generous mother mountain.
Various wildflowers and natural plants can be seen around Hyangjeokbong Peak. You can also see squirrels around the stone tower at the top, but if you put corn or acorns next to the hole in the stone tower, you can see the squirrels coming out and scavenging for food. As Hyangjeokbong Peak is the highest point of Deogyusan, the surrounding scenery is excellent and it is a good place to take a commemorative photo.
If you go down the stairs to the right from Hyangjeokbong Peak, you will find a spring where you can drink water, and Deogyusan Shelter is visible behind the spring. It is not a long distance from Hyangjeokbong Peak to Jungbong Peak in about 20 minutes.
We invite all participants at the Asia-Pacific Masters Games 2023 Jeonbuk Korea to visit these wonderful hiking spots at Deogyusan where everyone can make lasting memories and share their photos with their friends and for the world to see.
